if the 13 yr old dosnt want to be there i dont thnk it matters whatt their parents or the nbl say or think…. if they want to race they will race. when they stop asking to go to the track i agree its most of the time because there are a limited amt of “older guys” there. i know my son always says i hope so and so is there today…or i hope i can race in such and such class , i hope they move me up into so and sos moto,,,its bout wanting to be as fast as the older guys…

thats why when we have our opens at flem we let the little guys get a taste of it sometimes ( we give them a lead of course) to let them see what they have to look fwd to.. they love it

as the riders get older they have to have a reason to go, and if you are lucky there is not a “bossy girlfriend” who wants them to stop racing. that seems to be a common complaint i hear from riders when i ask why they stopped….( so beware!!haha)

i think these are all good ideas and maybe some should be brought up at the meeting. i think the mentor program thingy is a good start this way the older guys can keep an eye on their “proteges” (cant spell) and the little guys have someone to go to/ look up to.

how the heck did i get on this subject? old age i guess.

    brett-
i dont agree with you on that one.. when we went to our first pres cup my son was not on a team at that time but he was on team nj… it was exciting and everyone from nj was going. the team thing was big back then( and yes phil went too even the years he wasnt a shoe in for 1st place points..lol) i think the reason people back then got into the state series so much was looking foward to making top 10/state( of couse there were at least 10 in each class back then) and going to the pres cup. now i am looking at it from a 7-8 yr olds eyes now- looking back. jeff used to go and bring noisemakers and everyone in the stands had one ( yikes it was loud) and everytime a nj rider went by you heard us! this was back when like the state series had t-shirts from every qualifier plus the championship…a raffle at every state qualifier that would compare to the iron man prizes…. there was excitement. riders at 7-8 dont just ride for the fun of their bike.. they race. theydo it for pure excitement and being on a team( nj) makes it even more exciting… and they want to race to win something. that cup was a big deal weather it meant something to the adults or not…

that is what the team nj was all about bitd as you say. that is only 10 yrs ago i know you older guys are from a way back different era… the giving money to nbl thing had nothing to do with it. there was no political agenda back then just race for the race( maybe we were just blind to it but it was fun)

actually i have pictures of team nj with over 70 kids in ohio i think cj has some too… take a loook at the kids. danny just mentioned to me that back then the older really fast riders who were 13x and up dont even race/ ride any more…where are they? maybe they left when the excitement was gone..

yes you are correct it was 10 locals and 4 qualifiers( back when each track did a back to back race weekend and mullica was one) the bw races didnt count in state series just as a local i think but it did count towards the regional( maybe double points if i remember correctly) points series if you followed that.

we did have some lean years where hardly no one went to rep nj in the pres cup. i dont know why that happened maybe when it moved to fla? i dont know. when we first started going we had close to 70 riders representing nj it was a real TEAM NJ event. banner and all a whole section of bleechers- we had to fight for our space ( i know cause we used to get there early and caution tape the whole section off- yea i admit it i am a caution tape fanatic! lol) what happened i dont know. but last yr we had maybe 10 kids and somehow the thrill wasnt there anymore- i could see it from a spectator point of view… a rider view was different. still racing trying to make the main… still putting out 110% but where is the team spirit? i think thats a big part of whats missing in nj. all you have to do is sit near fla and see what we are missing.

usually they have an old school race plus a 16″ open (for any age) plus other “fun races” and festivities…

will ask at the track this sat they should be making announcements shortly

tracks w/decision makers are the way to go. wherever there is a technical section/ section with larger jumps have a decision maker or “beginner section”

love the practice track idea just requires more manpower and thats what we are lacking nowadays. if you can fix that you have it 90% covered.

bring a buddy…Haha..more like bring some(more) money. definitely like the open house idea like for a sat/sunday for parents that work give them either day to bring the kids. plus older riders(teenagers) most have to work saturdays so sundays gives them more options as well…

im sure you guys have been there done that with this discussion

i like that it was 3 days so ppl can choose also allows for rain date. i know they( ct) are religious about their “open houses”. i think each track has one every yr.

flyer design can be changed- whatever- go for it- i wanted you to see their basic plan of attack.. thats what nj needs(plan of attack). something that works and do it consistantly every yr

i will be at the meeting on sun

can you send out an email if you have everyones on a list somewhere to remind folks to go? i dont know that everyone checks this site. i dont know if you have an ongoing email list for njbmx either??? probably?

did someone collect emails at the state championship race? i know jeff used to send out mass email announcements when something impt came up or reminders for meetings/ special races/ events etc.

    just a suggestion.

    Ouch

hey dont roll your eyes at me young man!! i forgot thats where you put the announcements…sorry!

i see you guys were busy bees sounds like you hit alot of good topics.

i like all the discussion items one in particular i was curious about. when someone asked why is the east coast nat always at eht i ask why the heck is it always at the WORST time of the year…. MARCH?APRIL when we have the most unpredictable weather up here in the ne??? i have asked some folks (powers that be) this in the past why we cant switch with some other national like north carolina when its hot as hell there dosnt take a brain surgeon to figure it out… we would be better off in may and they would have beautiful spring weather in april… duhh! lets see nj take the memorial weekend national for a change instead of freezing our butts off( although we have been lucky a few times but mostly have a better chance of rain/wind gusts of 30mph/ temps in the 40’s)

beats the hell out of me?
