2005 NJ NBL BMX Racing State Championship

The heat was on literally and figuratively August 13th at the States. Grueling 95+ temps with humidity that felt like you were walking through the air put the smack down on all the riders.

Quite a few of the titles were already sewn up by the time the Championship rolled around but a few burly blazing bikers stood out….

The Heaths are on a roll this year. Big Daddy Jeff is dominating the 40-44 cruiser class and once again stepped up to roll over his class and take the plate. Heath’s tan tank bobbed its front end all over the other riders in the class and smoked ’em like a good cuban cigar. The other half-pint Heath..Jeffrey rolled over his cruiser class but had to settle for the deuce in his 20″ class.

Controversy? YEA! Even the State Championships had a little bit going on…It seems before the Championship there was a bit of a discrepancy over what class James McNamara should be riding in. I’m not gonna go into the details of it all, but we’ll just leave it at the Big McMacNamara machine was stepped up a class and upon that stepping, it seems he stepped it up as well…A big first place for the controversial Jamming James in 18-21 Expert.

Judge Judy laid down the law and let Victor Behm finally change his name to Victory Behm as he laid down the woop a**….well you get the idea..on his classes. Behm blew past guys older than him and smokeacized his cruiser class! Beside rocking his classes he kept the style button on high all day and let the pony tail fly in the face of his competition. Look for that Nat.# 7 plate to go down lower come this September.

For those of you as old as dirt….yea that’s all you 33+ fellers! You may remember the name Rich Farside. Rich was an early factory Hutch rider who then went on to woop butt for Diamond Back in the 80’s. Well…he’s back, he’s killing it and he has brought his daughter Taylor to woop tail on the ladies classes. Top finishes all over the place for these two for the day. Word has it that Rich is also involved in getting Diamond Back fully back into the racing scene, as they already have a few killer freestyle riders. The return of Old School race teams like SE (yea, the OM of BMX Scot Breithaupt is back in SE land…) and Diamond Back can only be good news for the sport and the scene.

It’s been over 20+ years since I’ve been at State Championship and it looks like things are back on their way up, new riders, old riders and a revitalized scene point to a major revival of BMX racing in NJ. Mega smoking melting props to all the riders, parents, and volunteers who rolled into Egg Harbor to help and participate in the race.
