You will never see a BMX track in every town, not even close. The ABA and NBL had 60 years of running BMX and this is where we are.

Isnt the track still there? I know I did clinics in Indiana but for some reason Mike Gul who scheduled those weeks didnt set one up at Evansville for us.
We did the one by Sun (Sorta we showed, we left, thinking it got rained out, the TO was so pissed) But when we got there it was under water and no one was around from the track so we headed over to Sun for a tour.

I also did a clinic at the Indy Velodrome track. Got any good pics of Evansville?

Evansville was one of the tracks I always wanted to race but never got to.
You were lucky to race a track like that, it held so many legendary Nationals.

Yeah my first race ever was on my Schwinn Stingray. I went to the track that first race thinking ‘I had THEE bike’ but I actually had the worst bike lol.

I wonder how many riders made their first race on a Schwinn Sting Ray.

Black and White? Normal? You Freestylers are a strange breed for sure.
Plywood Hoods. I think normal is Chrome, Anodized Red, Blue or Gold.

Yeah I raced in every decade but our current one.
The 80s was way easier and more fun. I’m looking at photos of tracks from the early 70s even before my time, some had no jumps at all over 1 or 2 feet tall and still 100-200 kids would show. I guess those kids didnt know you have to progress in order to have fun on your bike.

I havent raced EHT since it was ABA and called Bargaintown. I did do gates back there when I was with Hyper, someone eve said I announced a time or two but dont remember that lol.

Todays EHT looks wayyy harder then it used to be. One slip up now and you can easily visit ER. Of course Bargaintown didnt have blacktop turns either, so what did we know back then.

Look at this track from 1977

I’d do a track like that, add a few more jumps and bam – kicked up a notch and tasting good.

Tom I even bought a membership in 05 and did gates in 05 a few times and liek once in 06 and once at Flemington in 06. But the tracks out here are wayyy to hard. Death traps for us older riders. It wasnt even fun to do gates, the first straight has like 4 sets of jumps and none are easy. One of my pet peeves is the first jump on tracks. IMO it should be the easiest jump on the track. It should only server to help separate the pack and get you into a rhythm to jump some.

Dont get me wrong I can probably hit my local tracks first jump 9 times at full speed and not crash. But just one crash on a tall jump like that can stop me from going to work and paying all my bills. Its not about balls only anymore, now i have to worry about my credit score.

The tracks are just stupid and I’m not gonna support them with my money. BMX is supposed to be fun not scary.

dont worry about the helpers Parents will volunteer youll see.
Throw in some free entries for staff and its not hard.
Maybe even talk to a bike shop or two or three and get the staff a discount. In return they get mentioned as much as possible on da mic.
Raise some money by selling banner or wooden little league type signs. Find out what the LL is geting and price about the same or just under.
That money can go to a small pay for staff. Like $50 a race or whatever it works out to be.

Then when you need to raise money for lights or a fence or whatever doa 50/50 or one race with no trophies. Kids still get points and the proceeds can get the riders and parents a better facility.

Bottom line dont think like an ABA track. Think like a local kid who has never raced or even seen a track before. They just want to ride and compete. Let the track grow naturally, dont worry about looking like Sandy Utah, Cedar or Perris, CA track overnight.

Yeah and an Auburn. The Boss is mine. Toms on the Hutch.
The guy on the Titan is from MD or PA right? Phelps from Phelps racing right?
And who is the guy in the blue again?
That has to be 89 before the new Action Wheels jerseys came in. Note the AW sticker I made for my plate. That bike got stolen on my way down to Columbia MD National. In fact wasn’t far from Daves house when it got taken off Rt 130. Wonder where Dave was that night?

BTW is that an Old AW jersey up on the hill? Clay or maybe TJ?
